Lifelong ocean enthusiast,
Captain Scott McClung, founded Waterman
Academy in 1990 with the goal to provide
character building sea based adventures
for young men. For years Scott had
witnessed schools, churches and society
in general stifle the energy in young
men. He dreamed of creating an experience
where boys could be boys, but also
a place where he
and other positive roll models
could speak freely to young men about
the importance of being a man and
a leader.

Captain McClung is an acclaimed
fisherman, competitive swimmer, professional
lifeguard, Harbor Division Sheriff’s
Deputy, Fire Department Engineer,
surfing addict, and church youth ministry
volunteer. These passions, a small
vessel and an awesome crew gelled
to form the basis for the first Waterman
Academy programs. As a floating
marine classroom, local schools
experienced multi-day ocean trips.
Students would eat, sleep and learn
about marine
science on and in the water. This
unique format made learning fun and
has inspired many young people to
do great things.
Today our mission is to allow young
men and women the opportunity to challenge
themselves physically and mentally
and find their personal best.
Our passion is to help boys and girls
become honorable men and women |
